In these uncertain times with hosting companies ceasing trading, owners of hosting companies physically passing away or even getting hacked now is the time to make sure that you have and are able to take full backups of your websites and databases.
Fortunately, for customers of ROI Designs and those that use Full Fat Hosting, our own web hosting company, we store a backup of each and everyone of our websites for a rolling 30 days. So at any one time we have a daily backup of their websites everyday for the last 30 days.
Only this week we had to offer assistance to 4 companies that had lost their websites due to the sudden passing of their web host. Trying to track down the relevant people to speak to and then having to speak to the bereaved family to give permissions for the release is never something that anyone wants to do in such sad times.
However, if you have taken a backup of your website and still have ownership of your domain name then all is not lost.
There are several ways to take a backup of your website and with most content management systems there are plugins that will do it at a click of button. Our personal favourite is All-in-One WP Migration which will create a file to download and store on your PC or cloud. Introduced in 2013 and used by over 60 million websites, All-in-One WP Migration is verifiably one of WordPress’ most trusted and utilized plugins for moving websites with absolute ease.
We always recommend making multiple backups of your website and store them separately from the site.
Backups can not be deleted even if the site is compromised.
